St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Premier of Nevis and Senior Minister of Health the Hon. Mark Brantley says the Alexandra Hospital Expansion Project is expected to be completed in 2022.
At his monthly press conference on Thursday, January 27, the Premier provided a status update on the project’s construction timeline.
“I am told that the construction should be completed this year. That is the expectation. We are now at the stage where we are putting in the windows and doors and starting the interior work.
We are going to have various surgery suites available such as dialysis, physiotherapy, new lab facilities, radiography, a new maternity wing, and various suites for accommodation for patients. We expect a new CT Scan machine that should be arriving on island in the next few weeks and that too will be housed there eventually. We are going to house it at the hospital grounds in a containerized unit for now but when we’re done that will also be housed in the new facility,” Premier Brantley said.
The project broke ground more than four years ago on May 31, 2017, and is jointly funded by the Sugar Industry Diversification Fund (SIDF) and the Nevis Island Administration (NIA). A EC$19 million dollar budget was budgeted for the project.
According to an article from the NIA’s Department of Information in October 2018, Mr. Edrick Pemberton of Wedge Construction is responsible for the construction of the Physiotherapy Wing, the Paediatric Isolation Wing, and the Laboratory Wing. His contract with variation is EC$7.2 million.
The other contractor, Mr. Clive Evelyn of Evelyn’s Construction is responsible for the Operating Theatre and the Radiology Wing and his contract with variation is EC$9.1 million.
Premier Brantley, at his October 06, 2021 press conference, told journalists that an additional EC$1.3 million expenditure is expected for the project completion.
