St. Kitts and Nevis (Sports Page) – The annual Swim camp, hosted by the Nevis Aquatic and Sailing Center, got underway at the Oualie beach on Monday 15th August and will conclude on Friday 19th August.
According to the chief coordinator of the program, Danielle Connor, the overall aim of the camp is to teach children from age five upwards, to swim and sail and also to learn about the sea environs and the creatures that live therein so that they can learn to appreciate and preserve those aspects of sea life.
The children are rotated through four basic stations on a daily basis:
Station one is run by Instructor Nickail, who is responsible for teaching the children to sail and they are also taught about the makeup of the boat and how to set the sails etc.
Station two is for the beach and fun activities, led by JR, who is ensuring that the hand and eye coordination of the children is in order while having fun at the same time
Station three is the swimming aspect, led by Swim coach T-Liburd and his role is to ensure that children of all ages learn to swim
The final station is run by Dr Srinivasan and her son and their role is to ensure that the children are educated in Marine Biology.
The camp will climax on Friday 19th August, with a grand catamaran sail to St. Kitts and back to Oualie.
