St Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Another hiker was rescued after getting lost on Mount Liamuiga’s trail.

A press release issued on February 8 by the St Kitts Department of Environment indicated that the hiker, Mr. Lee, took off on the hike on Saturday, February 5 without a guide.

A rescue team was assembled, comprised of a member of the Fire and Rescue Services, Defence Force officers, members of the Boy Scouts, and 2 hiking guides. An employee of the Ramada Hotel also accompanied the team as a translator.

The search, which began about 12:10 a.m. February 6, was eventually suspended due to rain and foggy conditions. At daybreak, the search resumed and the team found Mr. Lee in a deep ravine some distance off the trail. They then made their way down and out of the forest at Kittitian Hill where EMS was awaiting their arrival.

This is the third incident of hikers getting lost while hiking Mt Liamuiga without a guide.

Authorities are again reminding hikers that they should:

*Make the trip with a trained and responsible guide

*Notify the relevant authorities at the Department of Environment at (869) 466-8535

*In case of emergency let the responsible person(s) know where you are going, the time frame of your activity, and with whom.
