Antigua and Barbuda has named internationally recognized Jamaican dancehall artiste, Masicka — born Javon Nicholas Ferron — as the nation’s new cultural ambassador, tasked with nurturing young talent in the creative industries.
Maurice Merchant, Director General for Communications in the Prime Minister’s Office, said three young Antiguan and Barbudan artistes will be selected to participate in a Jamaica-based artiste development exchange.
“They will receive professional studio training, songwriting development, vocal coaching, performance preparation, exposure to music producers and record labels, and entrepreneurial guidance,” Merchant said, highlighting the programme’s comprehensive nature.
