St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN) — A house went up in flames in the St. Johnston Village area sometime in the afternoon on Wednesday, February 03, 2021.

Officers from the Fire and Rescue Services responded to the scene at about 4:30 p.m. and met a four-bedroom concrete house with a basement engulfed in flames.

Mr. Garfield Hodge, Chief Fire Officer (Ag.), told WINN “the top section of the structure received thermal and fire damage and the basement received water damage as a result of the extinguishing process”.

The acting Chief Fire Officer said upon arrival at the scene, the officers suspected that the house was occupied by an elderly person but upon entry, no one was found. According to Mr. Hodge, arson is suspected.

WINN will have more on this developing story.
