St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN)—Azard Gumbs, the People’s Action Movement (PAM) Deputy Political Leader and candidate for St. Christopher #4, committed to a comprehensive renovation and upgrade of Verchilds High School in a recent campaign message.
“I wish to commend the teachers and staff of the Verchilds High School who continue to do an amazing job. As the next parliamentary representative for this constituency, I’ll ensure that there are renovations made to the Verchilds High School. I have heard the complaints, whether it be the bathrooms or the classrooms, and I want to ensure that the Verchilds High School gets the attention it deserves. There is a need for renovation. We talk about the Basseterre High School, but there is a need for renovation and improvement to the Verchilds High School, and when I am the next representative, I will ensure that that is done.”
The proposal is part of Gumbs’ wider infrastructural development and youth empowerment plan for the area.
The targeted plan aims to overhaul the institution to elevate the learning experience with major improvements to classrooms and bathrooms, a full-scale renovation of the school’s sporting facilities, modern technology upgrades targeting integration and technical learning spaces and enhanced general conditions and structural appearance of the campus.
Verchilds High School is widely considered a foundational institution in Constituency Four, having educated generations of local youth.
Gumbs emphasises that modern, comfortable, and safe learning environments are critical to ensuring local students remain competitive.
The commitment marks an escalation in localised political focuses ahead of the upcoming electoral race in Constituency Four, drawing sharp public lines against sitting representative Hon. Samal Duggins.
While Gumbs has previously operated an independent leadership and mentoring program at Verchilds High School, this upgraded framework outlines his formal legislative plan to secure public investments for the school.
