ST JAMES, Jamaica (Jamaica Observer) – A British man was detained at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, St James on Wednesday after he reportedly attempted to smuggle cocaine out of the island.

Information reaching OBSERVER ONLINE is that the man is a 59-year-old construction worker from Tottenham, England.

Police sources said the man was boarding the TUI flight destined for England when his luggage was searched at a checkpoint, and four rectangular-shaped packages found.

The packages, which were found at the base of the suitcase, reportedly contained 16 pounds of cocaine.

The accused was immediately taken into custody. He complained that he was a diabetic, and was subsequently brought to the Cornwall Regional Hospital for examination.

He is expected to be charged on Thursday.
