St Kitts and Nevis (WINN): As the month of August beckons some people are paying keen attention to weather forecasts, while others are keeping an ear out for the latest information on plans for year-end festivities.
Tuesday (July 21), WINN contacted Chair of the National Carnival Committee Shannon Hawley and asked for the latest information on possible carnival activities.
“The most important aspect surrounding the carnival activities at this point is the safety of our patrons. Right now we’re doing, from the back end of things, the meeting with key stakeholders, we’ve been meeting with the NEOC, to determine realistically what can and cannot happen during the annual carnival activities.”
Wednesday night, the Carnival Committee hosts a discussion on its Facebook page titled ‘Can we reinvent the way we celebrate?”
“…A year ago if you had asked me about a pandemic and how we were going to function in a pandemic, I’ve no clue. …The key thing is to reach out to the general public so what you’re seeing on Facebook, the panel discussion that we have planned for tomorrow night is including key stakeholders. So, for instance, we have Mr. Rodney who will be presenting from the entertainment perspective, we have Clement ‘Monarch’ O’Garro who’ll be presenting from a traditional perspective, so what we’re looking at is we want to hear from the public want to hear what the public has to say. The public’s opinion is critical in terms of how we move forward, so you’ll be seeing lots more engaging activities just to get the public feedback as to what and what we shouldn’t be doing for national carnival this year,” Hawley said.
