St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Soca artists including Destra Garcia, Skinny Fabulous and the wider soca community paid tributes to popular Trinidadian/Miami-based DJ’s daughter, who was confirmed dead.

In a family press conference, it was said, “Learning the news of 19-year-old Miya’s disappearance has been incredibly disheartening. It is every parent’s worst nightmare,” said a statement from their attorney Daryl K. Washington.”

“We want to stress that we believe that her disappearance and consequential death was 100% preventable and we intend to hold those responsible accountable to the full extent of the law. Policies must be in place to always protect women…”

On the famous DJ Eternal Vibes’ Instagram, there is a link to a petition “Ensure Arden Villas Enacts Proper Safety Measure In Light of Miya Marcano’s Murder, with over 31,000 signatures, of a 35,000 target. The petition, started by The Residents of Arden Villas, is urging people to sign to make the accommodation complex where Miya lived and worked, to become safer. Many women on the site have previously complained about feeling unsafe and that policies were not in place to protect the residents.

Family attorney Daryl Washington confirmed to WESH 2 that Marcano had tape around her wrists and feet, as well as tape on her mouth, when her body was discovered.

One of Miya’s friends, @lovelylaaurra on Instagram posted a picture of Marcano smiling on a swinging chair with a caption that expressed how unsafe outside feels and that this will keep happening. The account run by Sociology and Pedagogy (student) says I’m so sorry it will keep happening. We need to teach men at a young age that no means no and that’s okay.”

The primary suspect, Armando Manuel Caballero, was found dead in his apartment after evidence showed that Caballero had entered Marcano’s apartment without her consent, the night she went missing. Marcano was reported missing after she failed to board her flight to Fort Lauderdale to visit family.

The sheriff said there is evidence the man used a master key fob to illegally access Marcano’s apartment and there was a warrant for his arrest for burglary as a result.
