The Ministry of Defence (Trinidad and Tobago), in partnership with the CARICOM Implementation Agency for Crime and Security (CARICOM IMPACS) and the United States Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), launched a five-day regional workshop on firearms trafficking on 8 June 2026.

Defence Minister Wayne Sturge emphasised that illegal firearms trafficking is driving gang violence and organised crime across the Region, noting its increasingly transnational and technologically advanced nature. U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Michael Fitzpatrick urged participants to strengthen intelligence sharing, build prosecutable cases, and deepen regional trust through joint training.

The workshop brings together regional and international stakeholders to enhance collaboration, improve investigative and prosecutorial capacity, and reinforce the Community’s collective security response to emerging threats.
