Cayon Primary School welcomes donations from nationals in the diaspora

by Eulana Weekes

St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): The Cayon Primary School received hearty donations of academic supplies from nationals of St. Kitts-Nevis residing abroad, following a request made by the school’s Parents-Teachers Association.

The initiative was geared towards improving the quality of education and bringing relief to the families of students attending the school.

As a result of the “Back to School” drive, each teacher and student were gifted with their personal package of academic supplies in time for the start of the school term on Monday, January 9th 2023. The donations included but were not limited to notebooks, pencils, pens, crayons, erasers, sharpeners, highlighters and glue.

In an interview with WINN FM, newly appointed Principal- Mr. Javan Cannonier welcomed the initiative and hinted that this type of project would be continuous.

“The PTA at the Cayon Primary School sought to ensure that every child at the institution had the necessary stationaries to assist them in their academic quest or journey. Hence, the initiative would not be a sole [one]; it would be continuous as they recognise that learning is pivotal in the transformation of lives.”

Cannonier expressed gratitude to the donors who contributed to the “Back to School” drive and expressed his desire to receive further support.

“There were a plethora of donors of which we are indeed grateful. However, there were specific individuals on the foundation who spearheaded the initiative from the United States, Miss CoreenTje Phipps, Miss Jackie Allen and Miss Blondina Thompson. As an institution, we are immensely grateful, and we look forward to their continued support.”

The Cayon Primary School’s PTA President, Mrs. Teresa Hamilton, officially handed over the donations to Principal Javan Cannonier and a student council representative.
