(Press release) The Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU) enters the next phase of the “Media Saving Lives” Project, an initiative of the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction
(UNDRR) and World Broadcasting Unions (WBU) to promote Disaster Risk
Response (DRR) through media in countries that are most at risk to natural hazards.

On Tuesday, July 12, the CBU will host personnel from its member organisations in
a Kick-off meeting to the co-production phase of the project. During this phase which
ends in December this year, member organisations will work across borders to
produce content for radio, television and the internet.

Once finalised the productions will be added to the CBU MediaShare platform and
may be accessed and used by all members via the platform.

The meeting starts at 11.00 am Suriname/10:00am AST / 9:00am JA and SAI /
8:00 am Belize time.

The UNDRR-WBU project aims to strengthen the relationship between regional DRR
agencies and the media; improve the accuracy of the information, enhance the quality of
DRR information produced by the local media and improve the knowledge of media
professionals around issues relating to DRR.

As climate change continues to impact our region, risks from natural hazards are
expected to become more frequent and intense. Caribbean countries are amongst
those facing the highest risk from natural hazards. In this project UNDRR has
partnered with other UN agencies most relevant to transfer of knowledge to
broadcasters.
