St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN)—The Charles E Mills Secondary School Relay Team held their nerve to maintain their dominance at the National High School Track and Field Championships, securing yet another national title.
After winning the final event of the season, the 4×400 Relay, the school finished the championship with an impressive medal haul of 29 golds, 20 silvers and 25 bronze medals.
However, while they finished at the top of the standings, they needed the final relay victory to hold off a surging Charlestown Secondary School, which placed second with 27 golds, 27 silvers and 25 bronze medals.
Verchilds High School secured third place with 18 goals, 22 silvers and 12 bronze medals.
President of St. Kitts’ Nearest Athletics, Delwayne Delaney, praised the high level of competition.
“I don’t know when was the last time that happened. And so, it’s just a testament as to the competitive nature of this year’s edition. The testament to the hardworking athletes, the coaches, the administrators.
I mean, you can’t ask for more than what we saw over these last three days. High-level competition, competition that will rival any other high school in the region, right? And so, I mean, I’m basically speechless for the job done.”
According to the president, the results underscore the strength of the Federation’s athletics programme.
“Well, I was there by myself thinking about, yes, the inter-school has been done and dusted. It’s time now for character games and representing your country. And so, now we’ll have the best of the best now moving on. And we just need to come together as a country and support these athletes. Support these athletes because these athletes are competing at a high level, right? And one that we should be all proud of.”
All attention now turns to the 2026 CARIFTA Games scheduled for Grenada over the Easter weekend, where a number of the athletes who competed at the championships will go on to represent their country.
