(Loop St Lucia) Prime Minister Allen Chastanet has called for a peaceful campaign as Saint Lucia prepares to hold its general election.

The appeal from the prime minister comes in the wake of a violent altercation Sunday in Babonneau involving supporters of both the United Workers Party and the Saint Lucia Labour Party.

According to Babonneau police who intervened, the altercation began after supporters of one group painted over party graffiti put on the road by their rivals.

“Always remember that even though someone is your political adversary, that doesn’t make them your enemy,” Chastanet said Monday.

“We all want the best for Saint Lucia. Let us respect each other’s right to have a difference in opinion and ensure that we have a safe and responsible election campaign. United We Stand. Divided We Fall,” Chastanet declared.
