Chastanet claims gov’t providing little defence to COVID-19 ‘siege’

(Loop News) Former Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition Allen Chastanet has said that the country is under siege as active COVID-19 cases on the island have surpassed the 2000 mark.

“Our country is under siege, and the current administration is offering the people little defence,” Chastanet said Wednesday.

“Even more concerning is the demonstrated lack of empathy, even with the country in free fall. Therefore, the government must immediately change course. If you allow COVID to continue spreading, the citizens of this country will soon reach a point of desperation, such as we’ve never seen in this country,” he declared.

Chastanet commented against the backdrop of the Government of Saint Lucia extending the COVID-19 protocols until September 30.
