St. Kitts-Nevis (WINN) – Chief Medical Officer Dr. Hazel Laws is assuring the public that there is no evidence that the AstraZeneca vaccine is unsafe. She referred to a report published Monday about a recent study involving 32,000 participants in the USA, Peru and Chile.

Twenty percent of the participants were over 65 years old, and 60 percent of the participants had chronic conditions like  diabetes, hypertension, and asthma.

” The date coming out of this new study shows that the vaccine is 100 percent effective against severe COVID and hospitalization…it’s very safe and its effective,”

She said the goal is to achieve a “herd immunity” threshold by June/ July this year.

” Make an informed decision, come onboard and help us achieve our herd immunity threshold,” Dr. Laws appealed.

Here is the presentation made by Dr. Laws at the National Emergency Operations Centre’s media briefing Wednesday evening (March 24).
