St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): After some 90 days without a positive COVID-19 case, Nevis recorded its 15th case of the virus on June 14, 2021.
About two weeks later on June 30, St. Kitts and Nevis Covid-19 Situation Report No.461 reported the island’s 16th case.
On Thursday, July 01, another case was identified pushing the island’s confirmed COVID-19 cases to 17.
Coronavirus cases on the island have increased despite the suspension of non-essential travel between the islands of St Kitts and Nevis, a 24-hour lockdown for St. Kitts ( effective Sunday, June 27 at 6 pm) due to the high number of active cases ( 255 active cases) on that island, and a work from home order.
Contact tracing is now being conducted on Nevis which has a population of 13,000 people.
Social media posts Friday suggest that a 24-hour lockdown is imminent.
WINN understands that Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris will be addressing the nation at 1 p.m. today, July 02, 2021.
A National Emergency Operations Center media briefing is scheduled for Friday at 5 pm.
