St Kitts and Nevis (WINN): The St Kitts and Nevis COVID-19 Situation Report for Thursday, June 2 shows that 25 new cases were recorded in the Federation within the previous 24 hours, bringing the total number of active cases to 86 with 5 recoveries in that same period.
The COVID-19 dashboard highlighted 51 active cases on St Kitts and 35 on Nevis. The total number of confirmed cases in the Federation since March 28 2020 is 5,782. The total number of recovered cases since April 21 2020 is 5,653. A total of 43 persons have died as a result of complications from the virus.
Repeated community efforts, vaccine availability and supportive messaging have played roles in the national vaccination rates. A total of 26,750 individuals are fully vaccinated. 83.5 percent of adults have received a first vaccine dose, 78.4 percent are fully vaccinated and 10.3 percent have been boosted. The vaccine campaign for children between the ages of 12 to 17 years is yet to pick up momentum. As of September 1 2021, only 18.0 percent of individuals in this group are fully vaccinated, whilst 19.9 percent of children have received a first vaccine dose.
Economically, there has been an easing in the tourism industry from the measures imposed to clamp down on the pandemic. The national tourism sector has reopened with the return of air and cruise passengers and there has been a widespread reopening across other industries.
Dr. Cameron Wilkinson, Chief Medical Officer at JNF Hospital, continues to encourage community vigilance, responsible actions, and adherence to the non-pharmaceutical measures such as the wearing of masks and the washing and sanitising of hands.
