Culturama Updates: Pageant contestants and Calypsonians secured for Summer festival

St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): The media launch for Culturama 48 will be held on Friday, June 17, at the Malcolm Guishard Recreational Park, announced Premier of Nevis, the Hon Mark Branley, during his May 26 monthly press briefing.

“Preparations continue to proceed well for the 2022 staging of Culturama. Five contestants were secured for the Ms. Culture Queen Pageant. Four contestants for the Ms. Culture Swimwear and Mr. Kool Context, respectively. All of the contestants have signed their contracts and completed their photo, and video shoots will be revealed shortly.”

The Premier continued, “To date, 14 Calypsonians are registered to participate in a Senior Monarch Competition with a first tent to happen on June 26 at a David Freeman Center of Excellence. The reigning King will defend his title, and that competition is slated for Thursday, July 28, at the cultural competence.”

Additionally, a Young Voices Poetry Competition was launched for Culturama 48 under the theme “Celebrating those who created a path for 48 years of Culturama” to encourage youth participation in the Summer festival.

The competition is open to Nevisians and residents. The age categories along with the winning prizes are eight to11-years-old EC$500; 12 to 14-years-old EC$800; 15 to 17-years-old EC$1000.

Entries must be submitted in video format and emailed to poetry@culturamanevis.com; the deadline is 4 p.m., Friday. June 17.

Culturama 48 runs from July 21 through August 2, 2022.
