St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Ten Academic Scholarships are currently available by the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) to first and second-year students of the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College and Nevis Sixth Form students.
“There are scholarships available from RUSVM, for persons, whether they are in their first or second year at CFBC or Nevis Sixth Form College. There are scholarships available and covers your books, your tuition, and other fees that you might incur. So there are scholarships available on St Kitts and Nevis for those persons,” shared Michelle Phillip Mitchell, the ROSS Preparatory School principal and a member of the RUSVM Scholarship Committee.
The RUSVM has been funding these scholarships for the past five years and has since awarded 59 local students scholarships as part of the university’s mandate to support educational efforts on the island.
“We’re offering up to 10 scholarships, and in different areas. They are academic scholarships, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that for all of them that you have to be in the top percent in the school. We’ve had persons who’ve received these scholarships and in various avenues in education. We’ve had teachers, auto mechanics who’ve been recipients. We’ve had persons who have been in accounts, natural sciences. So the scholarship covers your academics, but it doesn’t define that you have to do one specific thing. ”
The deadline for this scholarship opportunity is Monday, Sept. 27, so ROSS urges students and parents to apply for the scholarships.
What does the application process entail?
“The first step would be to start to fill out the initial application. There are going to be two areas where they would need to write essays, and it’s not likely five pages. So the questions that they can, and they are able to answer, one is going to be a personal essay where they’re just going to be talking about themselves, and the other is going to be on one of the specific topics that we have asked if you’re applying for a certain kind of scholarship, there’s a question that you would respond to, and so that’s the first part. With that as well you will have to upload things like your CSEC certificates or your CXC results. You would need a police record valid within the last six months; you will also mean character references. Just two of them, persons who know you, can write a character reference for you. And finish and complete all the information by Monday the 27th (September). There is also a personal interview that will be conducted with persons who apply, and that usually comes after you’ve submitted all your information,” said Michell.
The scholarships do not stop at just providing funds for the students, but possible internships may be available for successful applicants at ROSS.
“We’ve provided internships for persons who’ve gotten the scholarships. If we have a department that they can learn through, they also get an opportunity to intern at ROSS in the summertime.”
Announcement of the scholarship awardees will be made in November 2021.
