Basseterre, St Kitts, June 20, 2021 – With the theme “A call to higher order,” Leader of the Opposition, the Rt Hon Dr. Denzil L Douglas has praised men who are fathers “for the strong, courageous, consistent leadership you have provided with compassion and commitment.”

In a message to mark Father’s Day, Dr Douglas in a Special Tribute to all the Great-grand fathers, Grandfathers, Fathers, Stepfathers, Fathers-in-law and Potential fathers, showered them “with high praise, healthy recognition and healing appreciation.”

“This pandemic season has been especially tough on mothers and children but even harder on fathers. With or without jobs, we must still protect, perform and provide for our families and loved ones. And so many of us black men have not disappointed. We delivered, though not perfect, we gave of ourselves without murmurs or complaints,” Dr. Douglas said in a message to mark the occasion.

Dr. Douglas recognized those working on the frontlines in the Federation and across the globe to ensure, pointing out that “as the world turns, we do our part at home, in the community, in mechanics, in religious circles, in government, in education, in medicine, in transportation, on the farms, in public service and all other areas of life.”

“Some of us have strayed from the straight and narrow path, and are recovering from our shortcomings and struggles. Yet, countless of us Fathers, wear the crown of our daily duties with honour, grace, and caring. We know how to love because we have been so loved. We know how to give and forgive because we have been given mercy so many times and we know how to answer the call of purpose and destiny because God has assigned the task of selfless and sacrificial leadership to us. For this we are thankful and most importantly, blessed to be called Fathers,” said Dr. Douglas, the former prime minister who served in that high office from 1995 to 2015.

“To each Father, as our day is celebrated, let us remember those who have passed and those yet unborn. We must pledge ever to be better men in fulfilling our marvelous responsibilities! Happy Father’s Day to all Dads within the Federation, the Caribbean and the World!”
