St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN) — “Reigniting the Passion and Trust as we ensure food and nutrition security” was the theme under the Department of Agriculture in the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) presented its agenda for 2021.
Mr. Mc Levon “Mackie” Tross, Owner and Manager of A-1 Farms in Gingerland, Nevis was the Featured Speaker. “Mackie” used the opportunity to highlight the importance of Agriculture in Small Island Developing States.
Mr. Tross used the opportunity to appeal to grocery store owners to be reasonable with their pricing on goods bought from farmers.
The NIA’s Agriculture Minister, the Hon. Alexis Jeffers was also present.
Remarks were also made by Premier of Nevis, the Hon. Mark Brantley; Permanent Secretary in the NIA’s Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Huey Sargeant; and department heads within the Ministry. Representatives from the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA); the Republic of China (Taiwan); the Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI); and the Ministry of Agriculture on St. Kitts were also present.
The session saw an open floor for comments and ran from 9 a.m. to 12noon on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at the St. Paul’s Anglican Church Hall.
