St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN) – Dion Richards, 39, of Lower Monkey Hill, has been charged for causing the death of Lynette Nanton, 26, of College Street Ghaut.
On August 08, during the SKNLP motorcade following the August 5 General Elections, Nanton was a passenger on a motor scooter, PB4254, involved in a traffic accident along the Island Main Road in Brighton, Cayon.
The accident involved the motor scooter PB4254, owned and operated by Jahvan Morton of Monkey Hill and another motor scooter, PA7176, owned and operated by Dion Richards.
According to the Police investigation, both scooters were travelling from Cayon to Ottleys. Richards attempted to overtake Morton, who was carrying Nanton as a passenger. At the same time, a motor truck was travelling in the opposite direction, and Richards collided with Morton, resulting in Morton losing control and he and Nanton falling to the ground.
Morton sustained injuries to his feet, and Nanton received injuries to her body. The 26-year-old woman was transported to the Joseph N France General Hospital; she succumbed to her injuries on August 22.
According to the autopsy done on Nanton’s body on August 26, the resident pathologist concluded that her death was due to multiple organs damaged due to severe craniofacial trauma (injuries to the face or skull) due to the accident.
On August 17, Richards was charged with the offence of Dangerous Driving. He was subsequently charged with Causing Death by Dangerous Driving on September 12.
