St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Dr Denzil Douglas, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, attended the CARICOM’s Council for Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR) 27th Regular Meeting from May 23 to 24 in Roseau-Dominica.

The meeting’s agenda consisted of the ongoing situation in Haiti, border controversy, climate change, bilateral relations with third states, and United Nations matters, including security council reform.

The CARICOM’s Council for Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR)  is an arm of CARICOM that is responsible for foreign policy coordination and promoting the development of member states and partners.

The outcomes are expected to influence the diplomatic direction of not only St.Kitts and Nevis but also the region and strengthen efforts and partnerships in responding to similar challenges.

According to St. Kitts and Nevis Information Service, Dr Douglas used the opportunity to appeal to his counterparts to show solidarity for the Republic of Cuba by attending the United Nations forum in June, where the topic ” Elimination of Extraterritorial Unilateral Coercive Economic Measures Used as an Instrument of Political and Economic Coercion” will be discussed.

Meanwhile, Dr Vince Henderson, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Business in the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica, assumed the chairmanship of COFCOR. He succeeds Jamaica’s Minister of Foreigner Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Kamina Johnson Smith.
