St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Senior Minister in the government of St. Kitts and Nevis Hon. Dr. Denzil Llewellyn Douglas took the opportunity to congratulate the midwives in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis on the observance of International Day of the Midwife.

Dr. Douglas stated, “We want to turn our attention to and express our appreciation to our midwives at the hospitals and Community Health Centers across St.Kitts [and] Nevis and the world at large.”

He added, ” We are reminded daily of the importance of midwives among us, who skillfully assist in the delivery and care of babies whether through spontaneous delivery or by cesarean section. Midwives are vitally important.”

Dr. Douglas also expressed gratitude to the retired and active midwives for their service, dedication, and professionalism.

International Day of the Midwife is observed annually on May 05 in recognition of the contributions that midwives play in the international community and to emphasise the meaningful changes that need to be had within the profession.

The theme for International Day of the Midwife 2023 is “Together Again: from evidence to reality”

According to the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) the theme is a nod to the upcoming 33rd ICM Triennial Congress to be held on June 11-14 2023 in Bali Indonesia. The global midwife community will come together for the first time in six years to discuss meaningful changes for the profession, as well as the women and families they care for.
