St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): The highly anticipated leadership race within the St. Kitts Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) continues to intensify following another campaign address by one of the runners in the race, Dr. Geoffrey Hanley.
“In the early 1990s, I played a major part in organizing the Young Labour groups throughout the country which helped our great party to win the elections of 1995,” said Dr. Hanley, the only elected representative vying for leadership of the Labour Party.
“Comrades, I know that some of you have been saying that Geoffrey can’t talk. You say you need a leader who could talk in parliament. I want to remind you that in order to talk in parliament, you must first get into parliament,” he continued.
Dr. Hanley is the current Member of Parliament for East Basseterre following his win in the June 05, 2020, general election.
“I may not be the best orator but I assure you that I am the hardest worker. Leadership is not about talk, position, or title, it’s about action and example and that is the way I lead with innovation, action, and example.”
Principal of the Bronte Welsh Primary School and Director of the Department of Youth on St. Kitts are titles previously held by Dr. Hanley.
“My experience in public service is very extensive and varied. I served as Director of Youth for many years and implemented many programs including the annual summer camps, the People’s Employment Program of which I am extremely proud, and the 25 Most Remarkable Teens Award.
As the great gospel song says ‘I am a winner’ so I ask you to join with me, win with me. Long live Labour,” Dr. Hanley said.
The other runners in the leadership race set for Sunday, November 28, 2021, are Dr. Terrence Drew, Chairman of the SKNLP, and Mr. Konris Maynard, former Member of Parliament for West Basseterre.
