St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Dr. Terrance Drew, Leader of the St Kitts Nevis Labour Party and other Labour candidates for the upcoming St Kitts Nevis General Elections joined the women of the party for their special meeting held under the theme “Women in Focus.” The event was hosted on Sunday afternoon (July 10).
The St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party Leader says women are the backbone of the party as they play an integral role in the longevity, vibrancy and legacy of the party. Drew shared that women have been the main volunteers in organizing events which include public meetings and public demonstrations and equally the women stand up as vanguards and defend the Labour Party from threats.
The party leader during his presentation explained the meaning behind the theme, “Women in Focus” describing it as both an affirmation and aspiration.
“I recognised that the theme for this evening is “Women in Focus,” it is both an affirmation and an aspiration. It is an affirmation in the sense that we are gathered here to celebrate and honour the many amazing, powerful, hardworking, inspirational women who form the backbone of our party in leadership and our community workers. “How you do all that you do is really amazing. It is an indication of your dedication; the way you take care of your family and the way you find time to really work in this organization. Thank you for your Dedication.”
Dr Drew added, “Women in focus is also an aspiration in the sense that we recognise that there is still more work to be done to empower our women to be able to shape the next generation. It is a call to action to do what is required to create a gender equal nation that is wealthier and is more harmonious because of the presence of our women in our board rooms, government and workplaces.”
The leader expressed gratitude to the women for the integral role they play in the Labour Movement.
“I want to thank you for the opportunity to spend time with you as we celebrate the beautiful hard working women who day after day, year after year, generation after generation contribute to the cause and work of this Labour Movement. I am so proud of what you are doing.”
With the upcoming National Assembly Elections to be held within a few weeks, Dr Drew expressed to the women that they are needed. He assured them that they have the support of the candidates.
“I want you to know that the candidates are here because the candidates support you very strongly. I also want to say that you are the engine for Labour. Without you, Labour cannot win the elections and that is why I am here this afternoon to register our appreciation of you and to further say to you that your Party needs you, and your country needs you. We need you at this time, especially during this unstable political climate that we are living in.”
