St Kitts and Nevis (WINN): The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, the Hon Dr. Timothy Harris says his proudest achievement in his 7-year tenure as Prime Minister is seeing a more peaceful and safer Federation. Harris made this disclosure on Tuesday night May 25 during “The Point” with host Mr. Newrish Nital.
Nital questioned, “What is the proudest achievement that you would have had as a Prime Minister?”
In his response, Prime Minister Harris said, ” My proudest moment has been really delivering things that I know the people really need and there are so many of them. I feel a sense of satisfaction when I see the change, an almost revolutionary change in the peace and quiet in St Kitts and Nevis. This every night where people couldn’t walk the streets, shooting by our churches; by our business places; on The Strip, that is all gone; even at the hospital.
That has been a significant transformation that has come; not by magic but by hard work; by being innovative in creating new programmes like the Alternative Lifestyle [Pathway] Programme; building newness, a new consciousness and confidence in our people; recognizing that our people having been failed by the agents of socialisation- being the homes, our schools and our society. They needed a new opportunity to assert themselves and achieve their God-given potential. I am pleased about the transformation in law and order of the last seven years.”
The Alternative Lifestyle Pathway Programme commonly referred to as the Peace Programme was launched on May 13, 2019, and focuses on the at-risk, marginalised, disenfranchised and traumatised in society. In this regard, The Royal St.Christopher and Nevis Police Force have assigned personnel who are readily available to assist with conflict or feud as they emerge or develop among participants on the programme.
In an excerpt from the March 1 edition of Leadership Matters produced by Prime Minister Harris, Coordinator of the Alternative Lifestyle Pathway Programme, Major Kayode Sutton said the Alternative Lifestyle Pathway Programme is an intervention strategy designed to allow the individuals an opportunity to learn, adapt and display acceptable behaviours and become positive contributors to the development of the nation. He disclosed that the programme has received the full support of the Government of St.Kitts and Nevis.
