St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): A week after the East Side Bus Association members met with the Federal Cabinet to discuss their concerns, infrastructure work commenced at the East Bus Terminal.
That meeting was held after the drivers staged a protest at the terminal and marched downtown to picket government headquarters in Basseterre.
Monday (March 22), WINN spoke with the President of the Bus Association Mr. Jefferson Pemberton, and also visited the terminal.
He told WINN that at the moment there appeared to be a disconnect in communication between the drivers and the police traffic department.
He added that there was a suggestion of going back to the previous site for bus operations at Bakers Corner while construction is underway as some drivers were displeased with not only the disconnect with the police but that they would have to operate at the terminal while undergoing construction.
There has been no official statement from the Cabinet since its meeting with the bus drivers.
The grievances:
Lack of police presence
Other bus drivers soliciting passengers from outside the terminals
Ineffective Crossing Guards
Infrastructural issues
