St Kitts and Nevis (WINN): During Tuesday’s (September 1) broadcast of Leadership Matters, Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris addressed the EC$1,000.00 stimulus packages started in April 2020 in an attempt to alleviate the financial burden placed on citizens because of the temporary shutdown of our economy and the continued halt of our tourism industry.
Harris indicated that the package will be available for persons still unemployed as a result of the pandemic.
As previously reported, originally, the packages were only for a three month period, April – June 2020 and should have cost $15 million. According to Prime Minister Harris, over $22 million had been paid for the three month period. The PM further explained that the additional eight million dollar difference stemmed from the government’s decision to relax the stipulations previously placed on the application process for the packages to the benefit of the people of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Harris later said that the Social Security Board expects close to 3000 unemployed contributors to benefit from the September extension of the EC$1,000.00 stimulus package.
