St Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris says close to EC$80 million of the government’s announced EC$120 COVID-19 million stimulus package has been spent and the government expects a reduced demand for public assistance as the economy picks up.

At the “Leadership Matters” forum, organized by the government to report on national issues and interact with the public, Dr. Harris responded to a question about how long the government can continue to payout EC$1000 per month to people who lost their jobs, or income, due to the impact of COVID-19 on the local economy.

“We are hoping that by and large as we map out a pathway, clear path for re-engagement in the economy fewer demands will be made for COVID resources, ” Dr. Harris declared.

The prime minister recalled some of the measures government implemented in response to the COVID- 19 financial crisis.
