According to Central Banking, ECCB was awarded the Communication Initiative Award because of its goal of “improving the financial literacy of some 600,000 people from the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union and getting them to understand the central bank’s work, ECCB governor Timothy Antoine spearheaded a regular communications initiative named ‘ECCB Connects’.”
Since April 2016, ECCB Connects has produced more than 200 educational videos. The team makes around three dozen 15–25-minute episodes annually, disseminating them on the bank’s social media platforms, TV and radio across the ECCU. The topics explored everyday financial issues, investment scams, business financing, lending and personal finance.
ECCB Governor Timothy Antoine expressed gratitude to the team that made winning the award possible.
Some listeners were featured in a video produced by the ECCb about the award and expressed their appreciation for ECCB Connects and the information the show shares.
