Education Minister continues visits to educational institutions; latest meeting with Early Childhood Development Unit

St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN) – The Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Hon. Dr Geoffrey Hanley has been hosting a series of visits to educational institutions since he took office.

In his latest stakeholder meeting, the Education Minister visited the Early Childhood Development Unit (ECDU) on Wednesday, September 21, where the Minister emphasised the importance of early childhood education.

“I am very happy and pleased to be here this afternoon to engage in a discussion with Early Childhood, especially because of the fact that I believe early childhood is the heart of education in terms of where the foundation is laid for not only the children and the schools but the country on a whole.”

Dr Hanley lauded the Early Childhood Development Unit for their program, calling it a model for other countries.

“I have always been very impressed with the Early Childhood Development Unit over the years, especially because we hold the track record in St. Kitts of having the best program, the model program that other countries benefited from and continue to.”

Outgoing Permanent Secretary Vincent Hodge explained that the series of meetings is to help the Minister of Education and his Administration Team get insight and to express the minister’s vision for the future of education in the country at all levels; early childhood, primary, secondary and tertiary.

The Education Minister said the meeting was an opportunity for him to better relate to the sector’s educators and administrators.

“This is an opportunity for me to hear from you, to feed off of your energy, to cry with you if I have to, hearing of your low moments and, of course, rejoicing and back flipping on your highs.”

According to the Education Media Unit, the Minister will continue visiting other educational institutions until the end of September.
