St Kitts and Nevis (WINN): The High Court reserved its decision on the election petition filed by People’s Action Movement candidate for Constituency #1, Ian ‘Patches’ Liburd, until October 30.
Mr. Liburd challenged the results of Constituency # 1 in the June 5 general election that declared St. Kitts Nevis Labour Party candidate Dr. Geoffrey Hanley the winner by 24 votes.
The PAM candidate pointed to the 98 rejected ballots (there were six spoilt ballots) for that election and claimed that a recount would prove that he was actually the winner of the constituency.
The High Court after weighing submissions from both sides allowed the recounting of the ballots in the constituency and was expected to rule on the matter on Friday, October 16.
WINN understands that Mr. Liburd is expected to withdraw his claim.
