(iWitness News) Communications professional and activist Samuel Jeremiah George better known as Jerry S. George will be given a private funeral and burial this weekend, as per his wish, his family has announced.
All but the absolute final moments of George’s life were broadcast live before he died suddenly on Aug. 4, while hosting his Facebook show, “Early in the Morning with Jerry S. George”.
“I’ll step out of the frame, eh. Okay? You go ahead,” are George’s last known words, said to his guest, Grenada-based Jamaican journalist Beverly Sinclair and broadcast to the world, before he died.
However, the man who lived the last decades of his life in the public eye, as a marketing manager for telecommunication company Digicel and host of a regional television programme as well as a Facebook-based broadcaster had long told his family that he wanted a private send off.
In a statement, George’s widow, Valerie, and children Shara and Daryl, said:
“As a family we have been immensely blessed by the outpouring of love by the Vincentian public. You have held our hands during this most painful and difficult time of our lives. You have kept us before the throne of grace, you visited, you sent us food and called to sympathize with us. We cannot thank you enough.
“Our beloved Jerry George lived for the people he loved, fought against injustice and was a voice for the voiceless. Jerry George died how he lived. It was also his wish that in the event of his death that his burial ceremony be a quiet and private occasion. As a family we intend to honour his wishes.”
iWitness News was reliably informed that Jerry will be buried on Saturday afternoon after a funeral in Kingstown.
The service will be streamed live on social media.
