St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN)—The Fifth Annual St. Kitts & Nevis Heritage Day was held on August 23, 2026, in the UK, achieving widespread recognition after being featured on ITV Central News.
Organised by the Association of St. Kitts & Nevis Descendants (ASKAAND), the milestone fifth-anniversary festival took over the Birmingham Moseley Rugby Club in Birmingham, England.
Heritage Day organiser Edlynn Zakers, in an interview with ITV, spoke of the cultural connection felt with the Federation.
“It’s actually made us who we are as a people, as a community. When you go back to the islands, it just feels like you’re stepping back into a world you’ve always known, even when you’ve never been there before.”
The eight-hour cultural celebration drew a record crowd of more than 1,500 attendees. Families travelled from UK cities like London, Manchester, Leeds, and Nottingham to attend.
Chelcie Lewis, UK Sales & Marketing Consultant, St. Kitts Tourism Authority, spoke of the impact of the event on descendants living in the UK.
“This is particularly of interest to second, third and fourth generations living here in the UK so that they might not you know be as familiar with the destination as their parents and grandparents and it’s all about coming home.”
Major musical personalities travelled directly from the Caribbean federation to perform. The lineup featured the Ultrasonics band from Nevis, singing sensation Dejour, and reggae artist Virgil Hodge, with Sweet Sister Sensia hosting the main stage.
The festival highlighted traditional Caribbean food. It featured street food from St. Kitts-born Chef Esmie Stewart and plant-based dishes from Sam’s Vegan Delights.
The event served as a major platform for celebrating the enduring legacy and traditions of the Windrush Generation outside of the Island Federation.
