St Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Nu Vybes Band International, also known as ‘Sugar Band’ had an unfortunate mishap during the 2023 Culturama Jouvert Jump Up on Monday morning, August 07.
The Nu Vybes Band trailer, while making its way from Long Point en route to town, ran off the roadside in the vicinity of Valu Mart and the Bath Cemetery. The incident was caught live on video.
A Senior official on the Culturama Committee told WINN FM that the tractor was too small to accommodate the overweight trailer. So, while driving down the incline towards the roundabout, the driver lost control and the trailer overturned.
Some people fell off, while others jumped from the trailer before it overturned. The Culturama official confirmed that the tractor driver sustained no injuries. However, at least five persons were transported to the Alexandra Hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries had not been declared as at news time.
The Jouvert Jam was not impacted in any other way, as the other bands and road revellers were allowed to continue until midday.
The Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr. Terrance Drew, urged patrons “to be cautious and aware while enjoying the festivities on the road.”
The remaining street events for the Culturama season are Parade Day and Last Lap on Tuesday, August 08.
