St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): WINN understands that Mr. Akim Bartlette, Mr. Kimron Lawrence, and Ms. Shanika Gumbs of Webb’s Ground, Nevis as well as Mr. Rodell Lewis of Farms Estate, Nevis have been charged for the offenses of Conspiracy to Import Firearms and Importation of Firearms linked to the discovery of component parts of a gun on Nevis, by the Police on Thursday, March 04, 2021.
Commissioner of Police Hilroy Brandy in an earlier interview revealed that four people were arrested, charged, and were currently on bail for the offenses.
The Police are said to be “vigorously putting the case together”, and hoped that the matter would appear before the court shortly.
“What’s surprising is to see that some of these weapons are coming through our legal port of entry, so we have to be vigilant, and other agencies have to be vigilant because the Police cannot do it alone,” the Commissioner stated.
According to an April 30 press release from the Police, five illegal firearms have been taken off the street for 2021, with the most recent being found at Dorset Village.
Officers conducted a search on an abandoned building at Dorset Village on April 26, 2021, and found one (1) Smith and Wesson P99 pistol and twenty-five (25) 9mm rounds of ammunition.
