Government in discussions to increase salaries for public servants

By Devonne Cornelius

St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Employees of the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis may see an increase in salaries and wages according to the Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Hon. Dr. Timothy Harris.

Prime Minister Harris made that announcement on Saturday, March 26 while speaking at his People’s Labour Party Convention.

“I have asked the Financial Secretary to consider what it will cost to give you, our workers, an increase in wages and salaries,” he said.

The Finance Minister stopped short of revealing a time frame for the process, and how much the increase would be.

Prime Minister Harris also indicated that the government will be rolling out some relief measures to ease the burden on the price of fuel which is fluctuating due to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. Other measures expected to be announced by the government include the extension of the Income Support Programme where eligible applicants are paid up to $1,000 monthly for three months, and cushioning the impact on consumers on the price of food.
