St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): All nationals of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis studying at the University of the West Indies (UWI) are now eligible for financial assistance from the government.

The new policy to approve economic costs for nationals at UWI will take effect for the new academic year 2022-2023.

This action was announced in a Post-Cabinet Briefing by Cabinet Secretary Dr. Marcus Natta on Monday, September 05, 2022.

“The Cabinet has approved to grant economic cost to all nationals studying at the University of the West Indies in all disciplines, thereby reversing a policy of the previous administration.”

Under the former administration, the Human Resource Management Department reviewed the National Priority Areas list saying it became apparent that there was a saturation of several areas of studies with diminishing return on investment. The areas were General Medicine, Law, Business Management/Administration, and Hospitality/Tourism Managemnet, Political Science, Marketing.

The Human Resource Management Department said, “a large number of persons who earned degrees in these areas either remain unemployed as the market is not large enough to absorb them and very few are willing to risk business ownership.”
