Health Officials from SKN attend PAHO workshop

by Eulana Weekes

St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Health officials from St. Kitts and Nevis joined colleagues from 24 Caribbean Nations at a Pan-American Health Organisation workshop in Miami, Florida.

The workshop aims to strengthen risk communications and community engagement to manage and mitigate health emergencies and improve vaccine uptake.

The health delegation discussed several topics, including using risk communications and community engagement strategies for mass gathering events facilitated by the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA).

The discussions proved timely, as the Caribbean is preparing to co-host the International Cricket Council Men’s T/20 Cricket World Cup in June.

PAHO’s Sub-regional Program Director, Dean Chambliss, advised the health professionals that due to the region’s dependence on tourism, Caribbean people are exposed to heightened risks of communicable diseases that large gatherings and international travel can cause.
