Her Excellency Miss Marcella Liburd sworn in as first female Governor General of St.Kitts- Nevis

St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): The Investiture Ceremony for the new Governor General of St. Kitts and Nevis Her Excellency Miss Marcella Liburd was held on Wednesday morning, February 1, 2023.

Resident High Court Judge Her Ladyship Tamara Gill administered the Oath of Allegiance and the Oath of Office.

Her Excellency Miss Marcella Liburd is the 5th Governor General of the Independent State of St.Kitts and Nevis and the first female to hold that post in the country. She succeeds Sir Samuel Weymouth Tapley Seaton who served as Governor-General from 2015 to 2023.

The former Governor General whose reign ended at 11:59 pm on Tuesday, January 31, was not present at the ceremony but sent regards and best wishes to Her Excellency the Governor General.

The first Governor General was Sir Clement Arrindel; (1983-1995), followed by the longest serving Governor General of St.Kitts & Nevis, Sir Cuthbert Sebastion (1996-2013). The third Governor General was Sir Edmund Lawrence (2013-2015).

In attendance at the Investiture Ceremony were Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew, Cabinet Ministers and other invited guests.
