St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN) Residents in the Leeward Islands are being asked to keep an eye on Invest 95L, which is approaching the island chain.
In its latest advisory at 11 a.m., the National Hurricane Centre stated that Invest 95L was located 840 miles east of the Lesser Antilles. The system is moving toward the west-northwest at 20 mph.
Maximum sustained winds are near 30 mph with higher gusts, and the system has an 80 percent chance of development into a Tropical Storm in the next 48 hours.
A Tropical Cyclone Statement issued by the Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services stated that a Tropical Cyclone Alert means “a tropical disturbance with over a 50 percent chance of becoming a Tropical Cyclone is in our monitored area. Watches and Warnings are not required at this time but may be required in the next 48 hours.”
The system is likely to affect the Leeward Islands late Saturday into Sunday.
