St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): The St. Kitts Electricity Company Limited (SKELEC) is reporting an island-wide power outage on St. Kitts Thursday (November 12).

The outage was reportedly caused by a fire at the power plant in Needmust.

No one was injured, SKELEC said.

Corporate Communications Manager for SKELEC Patrice Harris in an update stated that no estimated restoration time had been set and in a post on SKELEC’s FaceBook page it was said that work continues at the Needsmust Power Station, repairing cables and other damaged equipment caused by the fire.

In response to questions concerning a poster circulating social media suggesting a Tuesday November 17 restoration date, Harris indicated that it was misinformation.

Listen here to Harris’s 2:30 P.M. update:

No report as to the cause of the fire has been reported as yet.

We will keep you updated as the situation progresses.
