St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN)—Police have confirmed that Keshaun Akers of Tabernacle has been sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to robbery.

The case stemmed from an incident on March 29, 2023, following investigations by the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, where Akers was arrested and charged with robbery and assault, occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was arraigned before the High Court on February 13, 2026, where he entered a guilty plea to the robbery charge.

The assault charge remained on file.

In delivering the sentence, Justice Thompson ordered that Akers serve six years at His Majesty’s prison.

With the two years he spent on remand deducted from the sentence as part of his rehabilitation, the court also directed him to enrol in and pursue CXC Mathematics and English for the May-June 2027 examination period.

The court further ruled that failure to comply with this educational requirement will result in an additional six months’ imprisonment to run concurrently with the six-year sentence.

Meanwhile, police have confirmed that the traffic department in Nevis is investigating a fatal traffic accident that claimed the life of Keshawn Merchant of Ponds Hill, Gingerland.

The incident occurred at approximately 9.10 p.m. on Monday, June 22, and marks the first road fatality recorded in Nevis this year.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Merchant was riding a motor scooter from Pinneys towards Charleston along the Island Main Road.

Upon approaching Old Hospital Road, he reportedly lost control of the scooter and collided with a concrete wall on the mountainside.

Responding officers found Merchant lying motionless on the road. The scooter sustained extensive damage, consistent with a high-impact collision.

Dr Tivone Browne examined the body and pronounced Merchant dead.
