St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): The St. Kitts Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) is strongly condemning the action taken by employers in St. Kitts and Nevis who have terminated employees for refusing to take the vaccine.
In a statement on Sunday, opposition leader and former prime minister Dr. Denzil Douglas said “Labour remains staunchly opposed to forcing people to take the vaccine…and condemns in the strongest language possible the actions of those employers who have terminated employees for refusing to take the vaccine.”
While condemning and disapproving forced vaccination, Dr. Douglas took the position that vaccination remains a very important tool in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic but so too does the non-pharmaceutical measures such as wearing of masks, physical distancing and repeated washing and sanitizing of hands.
He encouraged citizens and residents to adhere to these established guidelines and to “take every opportunity made available to them to take the vaccine as an added layer of protection against this dreadful virus”.
“Labour supports and encourages the taking of vaccines. We also respect the right of every citizen and resident of this federation to decide for themselves whether or not to become vaccinated,” Dr. Douglas said.
