St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN) — During the Nevis Island Administration’s Budget Debate in December 2020, Premier of Nevis and Minister of Finance, the Hon. Mark Brantley announced that there will be the temporary suspension of state-funded travel; payments of increments; promotion of officers or upgrade on salaries and wages; and employment of any new officers to the Public Service.

However, during Premier Brantley’s Press Conference on Thursday, January 28, 2021, he announced that Ms. Latoya Jones has been appointed Special Advisor in the Office of the Premier.

“We have taken a decision to employ… Latoya Jones as a Special Advisor to the Premier on community matters”.

Premier Brantley used the opportunity to remind the public that the cut cost initiatives are still in effect.

“In relation to the new hire…is there a suspension? The short answer is no. This was something that was negotiated since last year. We delayed the implementation until this year and so that is merely a manifestation of that”, he said adding that there is “no suspension whatsoever of our decision to cut cost…” said Premier of Nevis and Minister of Finance, the Hon. Mark Brantley.
