St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN) – Information reaching our news desk has indicated that a local diver and fisherman from Nevis Trevoy Liburd is missing at sea.
Liburd has been missing since the afternoon of June 22 while diving.
The fisherman was with another individual, diver and boat captain, Jonathan Dutil.
WINN understands that the two were diving in an area outside Round Hill/the area of the Horse race track where they usually dive for lobster and fish.
The divers made two trips to the ocean on June 22, first at 10 a.m. and another at about 3-4 p.m., according to a close family member of Liburd’s.
During the afternoon dive, the two seemed to have encountered some issues underwater. Dutil managed to surface but indicated that he could not emerge with Liburd.
Liburd has not been seen since. Dutil is hospitalised at this time.
WINN was informed that local divers, fishers, and the coast guard are still searching for Trevoy Liburd. Additionally, a small aircraft from Antigua is expected to come and assist in the search.
Liburd is in his late 30s, a father of one, a Social Commentator and a board member of the Social Security Board. He is the son of retired Assistant Commissioner of Police Joseph Liburd, a former member of the Electoral Commission.
WINN will provide more on this developing story as information becomes available.
