St.Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Musician Elvis Thomas credits his stint in the St. Kitts Nevis Defence Force for the development of his skills.
In an exclusive interview with WINN FM on Wednesday (Jan. 12), Thomas said his experience of learning and teaching music for the Defence Force Band was instrumental in his personal development.
“I have to give the St.Kitts Nevis Defence Force credit for looking out for me. When I came home, they recruited me to play and when they found out who I was, they put me in a position to teach. They actually created a position for me to work at the Defence Force.” I kneel to them for that.” I thank them so much. Those are the people who started me in St.Kitts when it comes to music.”
Thomas also informed that he played for other bands including, the Legends Band, as they gave musical accompaniment to the calypsonians. He said he always wanted to experience playing calypso; recalling that, in St. Croix, they never had calypso tents, hence the reason why he joined the Legends Band.
The Saxophonist said, though he loves calypso, his favourite music to play is the softer tunes, like concert music, jazz and religious music.
Mr. Elvis Thomas can be found on Fort Street in Basseterre on Mondays to Saturdays, where he begins his musical entertainment from about 7 am.
