Major events in St. Kitts to be highlighted at 2024 Caribbean Travel Marketplace

by Eulana Weekes

St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): The Chief Executive Officer of the St. Kitts Tourism Authority Ellison “Tommy” Thompson travelled to Montego Bay, Jamaica for the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association’s 2024 Caribbean Travel Marketplace.

According to Thompson, the St. Kitts Tourism Authority is seeking to market major entertainment events such as the St. Kitts Music Festival at the Caribbean Marketplace.

“Well, on Wednesday, (May 22) we have our press conference and the St. Kitts Music Festival is going to be promoted heavily and it’s going to be promoted heavily to all the tour operators we’ll be working with during the next couple of days. So, I think one of the things that came up in the presentations earlier is they pointed out that music festivals, carnivals, [and] sporting events are really critical to business coming into the Caribbean. So, in terms of where St. Kitts stands, we’ve got the Summer of Fun coming up.”

Other major events are coming up during the summer, Thompson explained, sharing that those events will also be marketed in hopes of increasing business and expanding to a year-round tourism atmosphere.

“It starts at the St. Kitts Music Festival, Nevis Mango Festival, St. Kitts and Nevis Restaurant Week, Culturama and Cricket. So, we’re hitting all those, we’re checking all those boxes and we just see that that’s a great opportunity and a great way for us to increase business. Traditionally, St. Kitts was not really a year-round destination and the Minister’s aim is to make St. Kitts a year-round destination.”

Thompson is optimistic that the events and increase in airlift and extended airlift to the destination will help to boost the tourism industry.
